Morning Harvest

The gophers got all the pole beans but one, but as you see, that one plant is going crazy. The weird cherry tomato is a black cherry--looks weird but tastes good. The tri-colored squash is also good and tender. In case you are counting, thats 75 pints of peaches from the first picking of the first tree. Julie helped. Also making pickles for Grandpa Larry. Wish you were here. XO

Grandma's Grape Juice

I've been meaning to put these up for a while. This is from our last visit. This is how Grandma painstakingly makes all that grape juice we like to gulp down.
First you cut the grapes off the vines
Then you snip them off into individual little grapes
Boil and sanitize all the lids and jars
Then you stick all the grapes in the steamer and wait for the juice to come out!
Here it goes! When it comes, it comes out really quick.

You let it cool and make sure it seals well
This is what is left in the bottom of the steamer. The grapes minus the juice!
Thanks Mom/Grandma for the delicious juice. We love it!

Sammy's hen house

Sam, this post is a little late, but I still thought I'd post it. I heard that Dixie ate up four of your hens when you were on vacation, so when we saw these at the corn festival I thought they'd make great replacements! I don't know what kind of eggs they lay, but there were really awesome. One of the hens looked like it had black fur, but it was camera shy. My favorite is the white bandy hen with the ruffled feathers. It was so cute. It was a really strange group of animals. Besides the chicken with fur, there was a rabbit that looked like it had feathers. Crazy.
