Bancroft Library California Mormon Collection

Mom and Dad visited the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley today in conjunction with Dad's work with the California Pioneer Heritage Foundation. We're raising money to create the California Mormon Collection at the library. They have an extensive collection of thousands of documents and pictures relating to Mormon history throughout the west. The pictures below describe some of the items they showed us.

This is Roland Pollard. He is the great grandson of John Whitmer and is holding John Whitmer's personal copy of the first edition of the Book of Commandments.

This is Chris Jones. He and his wife Louise flew up from Newport Beach. He is a collector of rare books and has an extensive knowledge of early Momon publications. He is showing Mom and Dad some unique characteristics of the second edition (1837) of the Book of Mormon - a preface by Parley P. Pratt, etc.

Mom is commenting on an account of the Relief Society written by Eliza R. Snow in her own hand. This was particularly exciting for Mom to see.
